The authorities look at whether the business is real and active, and whether your role genuinely needs your expertise. Getting the company side right first is what makes the application work.

Can I get an Employment Pass through my own company?
Yes. If you hold at least 30% of the shares and are a registered director, your Malaysian company can sponsor your Employment Pass, provided the company meets the sponsorship requirements.
Which Employment Pass category will I be in?
It depends on your basic monthly salary. Most founders apply under Category I, which from June 2026 needs a basic salary of RM20,000 a month or more and doesn't need a local job advert or succession plan.
How much paid-up capital does my company need?
Generally RM500,000 for a 100% foreign-owned company. If your business also needs a WRT license, the minimum is usually RM1 million.
How long does it take?
It depends on how ready your company is. If the company still needs to be set up, licensed and registered with ESD, the first application takes longer. We'll give you a realistic timeline once we know your situation.
Can my family come with me?
Eligible Employment Pass holders can apply for passes for their family. We can handle these together with your own application.
Do I need a Malaysian partner?
Not for most businesses, which can be 100% foreign-owned. Some sectors are restricted to Malaysian ownership, so we'll check your business type first.
